Confessions from Amanda Brief - My Social Media Story

Hey everyone, check out the rough draft of my Storify.

I appreciate your feedback and welcome any suggestions for improving the page.

Here are some questions to consider:

  • Should I go into more detail with my plans & policies?
  • Are there any metrics that I should include? Are there any that I can omit from the page

Thank you!

  1. Hi Amanda,

I like your work so far. Where I think you can strengthen it is in the analysis section. I have a sneaking suspicion, given the many times Mark has talked about use of statistics, etc., that he and Heidi will be looking hard to see how we use the statistics to evaluate what we've done and learned.

I see many people reporting statistics, but not really analyzing them. I think that will be critical. Look for reference points in your social media efforts and how they did (or) didn't result in what you expected on your blog. Reviews like that will be more meaningful to us all in the end.

    1. Hey Michael, you make a great point about analyzing the metrics. Are there any key metrics you think I should focus on in my analysis?

    2. Sorry I am delayed in responding to you. Four days lost to the flu...

An easy place to start might be to analyze what happened on days you posted versus days you didn't, days you tweeted versus days you didn't, days you pinned versus days you didn't.

There may be a tie-in to make between high pageview days and high-comment days.

  2. Amanda -

Your Storify looks great so far! It's clean and quick to read. When you detail your activities, you may want to comment a little bit more on that week's post vs. soley relying on the links you embedded. Other than that I think it looks great. You did an awesome job of incorporating hashtags and integrating Pinterest/Twitter activity within your blog.

    Hope this is helpful feedback.

    1. Thanks Tara! I did notice as I looked at other Storify pages today that people were going into more detail about each blog post. I will definitely add those details.

  3. Hi Amanda - I think your Storify page is looking great. I especially think your section about Audience is really well done. I like that you broke it down in terms of teammates vs. classmates who left comments. What about people outside of the class? Do you have any metrics that show additional engagement from outside COMI 610?

  4. Hey Kristin, that's an interesting point. One of my friend's actually shared one of my blog posts on Linkedin, so I can definitely include that factoid in the story and show the results from it.

    1. Hi Amanda - That's great! I think very few people saw engagement from followers outside of the class on their blog pages so I think that's a cool thing to mention. Good luck with finalizing your Storify!

  5. Amanda,

Great job so far! I am so happy to see that your Blogger images look similar to mine; I was having a meltdown when I first began my story because I couldn't get the headline to appear. Now I know it's normal! (Thank you for that).

I like that, in your activities section, you talk about how your strategies evolved from week to week.

Others have mentioned this, but I think you need more in your analysis section. Show some screen captures of your blog stats and discuss how the stats you have relate to your goals overall. You may be planning on doing this as you continue to work on your draft, but it will definitely improve the quality of your paper overall.

Small note, I caught a typo in the first line of the second paragraph in your "Plans & Policies" section. Nothing major, but worth fixing before final submission.

    1. Thanks for your feedback Kait. What is the typo you found? I can't seem to find it.

      Thanks,

  6. Hey Amanda,

Great work so far. I definitely echo a lot of the sentiments above. A bit more in your analysis on why you think your audience metrics leaned the way they did. How did you take advantage of different sites to make them your top traffic resources? Breaking it up with snapshots of your stats from either Blogger or Google Analytics might really give the reader a clearer view of your behind the scenes stats as well. I think explicating how your traffic built over the weeks might be good too, compared with how you have a general overview of your blog’s stats.

I think your Plans & Policies section is really nice and succinct. I think you can be more specific on how you shaped your strategy and how it related to what your objectives were. Also, instead of just linking to your policy, you could possibly go over why you went with the specific policy that you have. Or provide a snapshot of your Site Policy page. That’s what I did with mine, anyways and I think it helped break up some big blocks of text.

Overall, really great job. I think what Michael says above might be pretty spot on. When looking at your metrics, think about your target audiences when you started. Maybe mention that in your Plans & Policies section. Then you can refer back to that in your Analysis and describe how you either hit the mark or were surprised by the different results you got. Did your demographics fit what you thought you were going to get when you started? Maybe something along those lines.

Hope that was helpful! Good luck!

  7. Hey Nashrid, you bring up some great points.I think it's important I elaborate on my plans & policies and dive deeper into the analysis of my metrics. Thank you for your feedback.

  8. Hey Amanda, I agree with some of the other comments. I think you should develop the Analysis a little more and how you used the different sites to bring traffic towards your blog. You have done a good job so far.

  9. Amanda,

I really liked the descriptions of your activities. The week to week examples you gave were a good source of information about what you have been posting this week. You strategic goals were also really good. They were specific and measureable. You also mentioned that you wanted to increase by 25% every week and later had to lower that percentage to 15%. Did you find it difficult to reach these goals? And you also mentioned that you wanted to use stronger social media tactics. What strategies did you find were most successful?

    Great Post!
